Product Description
This Godin 5th Ave CW Kingpin II Cutaway is a special version made by our friends in Quebec. It features a Cutaway body design and the focused sound of two Godin Humbucking pickups instead of P-90s.
With the soul of a 1950' archtop, the 5th Avenue is a true vintage spirit of yesterday with today' level of modern playability. With more projection & volume in the low/mids than traditional archtop acoustic guitars, the dynamically rich tone of the 5th Avenue makes this sophisticated instrument a dream to play, but not a nightmare to pay for. The Godin 5th Avenue now makes the affordable North American archtop guitar a reality! From Alt-Country, Delta Blues, Slide, Jazz to Rock, the 5th Avenue can really deliver both acoustically and electrically.
Made from Canadian wild cherry, the body of the 5th Avenue features a molded arched top and back, as well as an adjustable bridge, classic f-holes, contoured high-gloss headstock, floating pickguard and cream binding. Finished in semi-gloss, this special model comes with a TRIC case.

I had handled the 5th Ave Jazz model and was impressed, especially for a guitar at that price. When I saw the sale on this one for a bargain price, I figured I would give it a try. I chose the humbucker model because if I was unhappy with the sound, I already own some Gibson 57 pickups. Wow is a good word. It is noticably plain, lacking the binding and finish of Higher end Jazz guitars. This is not saying anything bad about the workmanship which is really good. Decoration does not make a guitar feel or sound better. The feel on this guitar rivals my high end Jazz guitars. The sound is not lacking either, with smooth and precise sound for anything short of metal. The pickups do not have a high level output, but all my amplifiers have plenty of volume. This is like the girl next door in plain clothes, doesn't catch your attention in passing, but is a real beauty once you get close. I have owned lots of guitars for the same money and this one is clearly head and shoulders above the crowd. This is the best playing hollowbody you will find anywhere near this price point.Godin 5th Ave CW Kingpin II Cutaway Cognac Burst
.After researching Godin and finding no dealers in my rural area, when MF put these on sale, I bought one immediately. I have been playing for 50 years, and have owned many guitars. Craftsmanship, materials, and finish are impeccable in this North American made product.
Setups are so personal. The 5th Avenue came setup more as an acoustic. The neck is a bit wider than my tele (nice for finger picking) and it came with .12's and a wound G string. I changed to 10.5's and lowered the bridge a bit, got easier picking and a bit more twang for my cowjazz style. It is light and easy to handle, important for an old guy.
I have played it at a couple of shows now with no problems whatsoever using vintage tube amps and no pedals--just pure tone with minor tweaking of the amp's controls. No feedback problems with the humbuckers, and great string attack. The Tric case has a gigbag type zippered cover on it now. I'm not crazy about zippers on a daily basis, but it does fit like a glove and protect the guitar well, especially from temperature changes. It would be excellent for long-term storage.
This is a player's guitar and matches up favorably with anything in it's genre, and at 1/3 the price of a comparable Gibson, it's a no-brainer. Thanks, Robert.

.I put flatwounds on and this guitar came alive with classic jazz tones from the neck pickup and super blues/pop from both/bridge. The humbuckers are excellent (I'm an old Tele/single coil guy), the neck is very comfortable. Overall build is high quality, finish is beautiful. It will feed back in moderately high volume settings, so I put some large rubber grommets in the F holes and they dampen the top just fine, minimal cost as opposed to complete foam plugs that cost $$$. Case is very good, if a bit awkward, strap buttons fit Schaller or Tourtek straplocks, no need to replace. I have one stinkin' fret buzz at 15th fret to fix or I would have no beefs at all. I really like this guitar.

.When I saw the Kingpin for the 1st time I was in love with the shape and the finish. The satin finish brings out the beauty of the wild cherry. Then I got it tuned up and began to play- I love the tone and as my fingers toughened up it has become a dream to play. I haven't touched a guitar in several years and over 30 with steel strings.
I've only played the pickups through a headphone amp and they seem quite adequate to me.
There is no fret or body buzzing. One reviewer mentioned the pickup selector switch rattling in the center possition and it is a bit loose but I don't hear a rattle. Perhaps that is something Godin should check.
I would like to thank Custom Guitar's Friend for their prompt and courtesous service in sending me this wonderful birthday gift.
"Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm 64?" Yeah, I'm 64 and relearning the guitar.

.I love this guitar. The tone is nice acoustic or electric. The sustain is perfect and not inflected by too much or wrong kind of finish. I play in a combo with jazz, blues, rock, motown, reggae, etc. I feel it is perfect for my needs. The cherry wood has a certain resonance that gives it a specific voice, and I think it will age very well. Unlike thick finished, glitzier guitars (usually imports) this guitar was allowed to breathe with a very appropriate satin finish. The tone is perfect for jazz and all sorts of other genres. I will most likely change the pickups out, but these would be fine to keep in there. The hum bucker slots are just more useful to me since I can always get P90s made for those spots or go with cool PAFs (interested in Sheptone at the moment).

.ive been playing the guitar for several years. IM no expert mind you but i am experienced. I had been praying for a way to get a new guitar, the one i have now was getting a lot of wear and tare because of the playing i do in church and at resthome services. I might play for 1 and a half hours at a time, two or three times a week, sometimes more. I saw this guitar and i prayed and God made a way for me to get it. It is a delightful instrument. I love everything about it. now if you are looking for a strong loud acoustic type this is not what you need, but it does have a unique and very pleasent sound acousticly but if you want one that sounds wonderful through and acoustic amp this is the one for you. I bough a dean markley acoustic amp to go with it. just a smaller one for my purpose, all i can say is wow. the combination together is absoluteley awesome. i very strongly recommend this Godin 5th avenue cutaway. i currently owned a seagull and they both are great guitars. made by the same people the craftman ship and quality are amazing. I hope This review helped. God Bless.

.A very comfortable guitar to play. Set-up great from out of the box. Nice TRIC case too.

.My Kingpin II was set-up just fine when I received it. I get no fret buzz when I am picking. But when I play barre chords, it's difficult to play them cleanly. I must press down firmly in order to get a clean sound. I don't have this issue when I play most other guitars. I realize that the Kingpin is a jazz-type guitar. But it shouldn't be difficult to play barre chords cleanly on ANY guitar, jazz or otherwise.

.Without a doubt, this instrument is on par with the most expensive jazz guitars I have ever picked up in 45 years. The workmanship, detail, and component quality are right up there with the best. I did change the strings to LaBella Flats because I like flat-wounds on jazz instruments rather than the round-wounds. The action was perfectly set at 5/64th on delivery. I readjusted the bridge for a flat intonation of the high E, but that's it. I have the HB model (humbuckers) because I prefer them to P90's both sonically and cosmetically. The humbuckers are wide response with excellent output level. The only things you might object to is 1) the matte finish if you prefer glossy, and 2) lack of individual Volume/Tone controls for each pickup - but the feel, sound, and action match the best. I am a Godin fan for life! What a great value.

.This is a truly great guitar. It sounds good unplugged. It sounds amazing plugged in. It is light, properly proportioned, and easy to play. This guitar is so versatile - you can play acoustic or clean and it has soft full formed sound. It easily drives distortion and effects and still maintains it's ease of playability. You can go to folk songs to Dire Straits with the flick of a switch! Came with a nice Tric case which looks like a soft case with canvas covering and backpack straps but has a hard foam liner which provides excellent protection. I bought mine through my local dealer who sold it to me for eight hundred and fifty.
