Product Description
The Line 6 POD Studio KB37 is a USB audio interface and MIDI controller keyboard with Pod Farm Plug-in. The KB37 boasts incredibly low noise for recording guitar, and 12dB more dynamic range than similar USB audio interfaces for clear and dynamic recordings. Plus, the POD Studio KB37 interface's exclusive Line 6 ToneDirect monitoring virtually eliminates latency, so you record amp and effect modeling without sacrificing tone or feel.
NOTE: As of April 2010, if you order this product, you'll automatically be upgraded to POD Farm 2.0.
Half rock-solid guitar interface, half feature-packed MIDI controller, the Line 6 KB37 is as versatile as it is powerful. It features 37 full-sized velocity-sensitive keys, a pitch bend wheel, octave up/down buttons, and a set of software-assignable controls including a mod wheel, sound select next/previous buttons, five transport buttons, 4 knobs, and more. Its comprehensive I/O boasts a 1/4-inch guitar input (normal or pad), two balanced XLR inputs with high-quality mic preamps, phantom power and trim knobs, a 1/4-inch stereo monitor input, two 1/4-inch line inputs, two balanced 1/4-inch line outputs, S/PDIF digital output, a 1/4-inch stereo headphone output with level control, and a pair of assignable VU meters for a truly pro recording experience.
Public Service Announcement: Latency Kills
Recording with latency is like driving with your eyes closed. Line 6's ToneDirect monitoring allows you to record and monitor a fully processed tone while virtually eliminating latency and taking all the guesswork out of recording great-sounding tracks.
What's latency? Latency is the delay caused by the time it takes your guitar signal to travel all the way through your hardware interface, through your computer's processor, through your plug-in software, back through your hardware interface, and out of your speakers or headphones. This delay is heard in your monitoring signal and makes recording almost impossible. With a POD Studio KB37 interface, latency is something you won't have to worry about.
Start Recording Right Out of the Box
POD Studio KB37 includes POD Farm plug-in, Ableton Live Lite Line 6 Studio Edition 16-track recording software (ideal for guitarists), and award-winning Reason Adapted production software featuring a sought-after sequencer and tons of stunningly lifelike instruments. This sample collection of studio-standard hardware and software provides instant pro recording, right out of the box.
Record with confidence. Order the KB37 with POD Farm today.

Had this for a couple of years. Major problems are line interference, distortion and I have a F key that transmits to my computer that I'm using a sledgehammer on it. Overall good for practice, but not for any serious recording. Too much noise and I don't mean the good kind. Also be warned, Line 6 has been horrible about sending out any drivers for their products. Don't buy anything from Line 6 until they can get their act together..Compact, light and performant. This unit will fit in to a small case along with a laptop allowing you to travel anywhere with studio capabilities. As it comes in the box it is perfect for creating demos but you will need to upgrade the studio software if you are wanting to create more complex and complete tracks. The keyboard lacks subtelty but for the price I would say this is a minor issue. Latency is near nihil and the POD has enough amps and set up capabilities for interesting variations.
.I bought one of these several years ago, and have since upgraded my setup to an M-Audio Axiom 25 Keyboard and M-Audio Profire 610 Audio/Midi Interface. My current setup costs twice as much, but I never find myself disappointed with my music as I did nearly every time I used the KB37.
Setup is simple enough - install some drivers then plug and play. You can use the included Gearbox software to record instruments or vocals, or others like Native Instruments Guitar Rig, but it doesn't really matter since the buzz will render most of what you record useless. There will also be random sample "bursts" while recording, which are silences in the signal that last a second then a burst of all the sound from that second being pushed out at once, resulting in a loud garbled bang. This will also create some lag, so you'll have to restart the program you're recording with and start again.
One day the keyboard quit working entirely. I'm not surprised, though, as the construction feels flimsy and hollow.
Since upgrading (and spending three times as much as I originally thought I was going to), I haven't looked back. This would be a great gift for somebody completely new to recording, but if you're making this purchase for yourself, I recommend grabbing something more solid with features you'll enjoy rather than fight. I did find a single use for this product where it really shined though: A noise-rock lo-fi project. It under-performed all the broken tape players we tried fantastically, and really helped create our sound.
.I've been holding on to ideas for compositions for a long time. I'd started to get somewhere with SONAR, but things got away from me around 2002. Providence has seen for to gift me with some resources with which to pick up again. I've got an iMac set up with Logic Pro X, a cheapish set of computer speakers by Logitec, and recently, the KB37. Despite some reservations I'd seen in reviews, the price and timing was right, and I bought it from these dudes.
I was able to set up with no hassle, thanks to both Apple and Line6. All functions mapped quickly and correctly, and the basic functionality of the DAW can be easily controlled from the KB37. Construction seems solid for my purposes, on a desk no one else uses. Especially grandkids.
The four stars is tentative, until I have time to maximize it's functionality. Everything looks good so far, and I have only good things to say.
Side note: I am a recent Mac convert, having worked professionally coding and doing analysis with Microsoft Windows since version 3.0. My experiences with this instrument have been exclusively with the latest version of O/SX, a new hot iMac with power to spare and the latest version of a DAW which Apple makes. Others experiences may vary with older equipment and other operating systems.
I am fortunate in that I can spend a fair amount on what I deem crucial. This is all new to me, since my last PC used to compose died at the start of the century. I feel that I have saved hundreds, and perhaps more, on this purchase, and that it's been put to good use.
I would certainly devote more time to it if Line6 offered me a stipend, but as thing stand, I couldn't be happier.
.The lack of a good manual in plain english is a definite con
.I am new to recording interfaces and software but I found this device to be simple to use. The number of inputs will disappoint you if you don't have an external mixer and you want to record drums. Also, the software package that comes with this device is just enough to whet your appetite. You will definitely want to purchase a stand-alone DAW because the version of Ableton Live that comes with the device is very restricted. Not being a keyboard player per se, I couldn't find anything wrong with the keyboard/midi controller. It plays easy and the mod wheels are a nice touch. I run a 3.0 Ghz Pentium D with 4GB of RAM (Windows Vista Home Premium 32) and it runs like a dream - very little latency. The POD Farm application is nice as a stand alone or plugged in to Ableton Live ? it?s easy to get good tone out of your vocals, guitars, and bass, especially if you are familiar with Line 6 products. All in all, this product has delivered on everything that I had hoped for - easy to use, good sound quality for recording guitar, bass, and midi, ability to record drums (albeit poor sound quality due to only two microphone inputs and no external mixer yet), and quality. Now all I need is some decent monitors, a full-featured DAW, and a mixer and I?ll be good to go.
